Information for health care professionals about our services.
DrEd.com is a new and innovative answer to anyone needing faster access to a doctor for simple-to-treat conditions and for discreet treatment for embarassing problems.
DrEd.com is a safe and effective online service created to support your patients in accessing the treatment they need. The company has been in operation for over 5 years. We have extended our service across Europe to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Alternatively, patients can opt to have a paper prescription delivered to their address in 3-5 working days, which can be taken to any pharmacy for dispensing.
Pharmacies across Ireland will benefit from having fast and effective treatment available for their patients in a timely manner, increasing patient satisfaction and prescription volumes.
Our website allows users to select any pharmacy in Ireland. We use data from the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland to ensure that all pharmacies in Ireland are listed. If your pharmacy is not included or the details are incorrect, then please let us know. If using Pharmacy Collect, patients then go to their chosen pharmacy to buy and collect their medication.
Patients who choose to have their prescription delivered to their address can take it to any pharmacy of their choice for dispensing.
If the patient's order is placed between 9am and 4pm Monday - Friday, we aim to send a copy of the prescription to the pharmacy within an hour, but it can take as little as 20 minutes.
Yes, our prescriptions are legally valid in Ireland.
Our service is operated by doctors who are registered with the UK General Medical Council and it is the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England that monitors our service.
Irish Statutory Instrument No.201 of 2007 and European Directive 2011/24/EC on cross-border healthcare ensures that prescriptions written by a doctor registered in one EU Member state are recognized in all other Member states.
We only send prescriptions through to pharmacies by fax when the medication is needed urgently. These faxes, and the subsequent phone calls, are deemed to be an emergency supply at the request of the prescriber. As such pharmacies are permitted to supply the medication to the patient as long as appropriate records are made. Our prescribers agree through their obligations under Irish Law to furnish the prescriber with the original prescription.
Yes. Our services are secure, using an encrypted patient record to allow doctors and patients to communicate and discuss treatment options in a safe and secure way. We comply with regulations on data security and confidentiality.
Yes. Our doctors have a wealth of experience in treating patients remotely. We only treat patients where it is clinically appropriate. We use a range of algorithms and assessments to ensure that our treatments and care comply with the latest guidelines.
One of our registered doctors assesses the patient provided responses for treatment eligibility. If it is safe and medically suitable to do so, our doctors will issue a prescription for the patient. If it is appropriate for a prescription to be generated, one of our team will contact your pharmacy to ensure you are able to supply the medication.
In some cases, we may need more information to ensure we can provide the correct treatment. We may then request further information from the patient or request that they order a home testing kit. These home testing kits are dispatched from our Dublin based laboratory.
Pharmacists play a key role in ensuring that the products supplied to patients are safe. The Code of Conduct for Pharmacists and Regulation of Retail Pharmacy Business Regulations 2008 (S.I. No. 488 of 2008) places an obligation to ensure that prior the supply of the medicinal product concerned, they review the prescription. The pharmacists must be satisfied that the patient concerned has sufficient information and advice for the proper use and storage for the medicinal product concerned.
To use our services, you must be aged 18 or older and have a debit or credit card.
Anyone can use the DrEd service but to use Pharmacy Collect you must confirm your healthcare need is urgent.
We are not a replacement service for those seeking emergency medical attention as provided by 999 or 112 services.
We currently only treat a limited range of conditions that are safe to treat remotely, such as treatments for sexually transmitted infections and erectile dysfunction.
We also treat patients who are on long term medication for treatment of asthma, high cholestrol levels, high blood pressure and use oral contraceptives who don't always have time to visit their GP for their repeat prescription.
We send out a range of home testing kits which are dispatched from our Dublin based laboratory. These allow people to discreetly test for common sexually transmitted diseases. If the patient's test result is positive and it is appropriate to remotely prescribe treatment then DrEd can provide Pharmacy Collect prescriptions.
Unfortunately, some patients' symptoms can not be treated remotely. In the region of one in ten of our current users are not suitable for online treatment and are referred back to their own doctor. We believe this is the safest thing to do.
As consumers and practitioners become more confident with our service, we intend to expand our services and product range.
Generally we charge users about €20 to issue a prescription.
We also offer a range of home test kits which are sent to our laboratory in Ireland. These tests start from €40 per test.
The pharmacy decides the medication costs to the patient. As this is a private prescription your pharmacy will take payment for the medication as you would any other private prescription.
We recognise the valuable and important role that pharmacists have in healthcare. Our aim is to ensure that your patients have a positive experience and that we are able to build trust and repeat trade not only with the customer but also with your pharmacy. Therefore if you have any questions or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact us on 01 619 0229, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can complete one of our online assessments at any time, whenever it suits you. It’s as easy as 1,2,3.
