Amias tablets are used as a medical treatment for high blood pressure (hypertension). They contain the active ingredient ‘candesartan cilexetil’, which belongs to the group of medicines called ‘angiotensin II receptor antagonists’.
Amias tablets reduce blood pressure by causing your blood vessels to relax and widen. This increases blood flow, and makes it easier for your heart to pump blood across your body. All of these effects help to reduce your blood pressure.
The medicine is also used to treat adult heart failure patients in specific cases: i.e. when there is reduced heart muscle function, and when ACE inhibitors cannot be used in treatment.
Amias is a prescription medicine. You should only take Amias tablets if they have been prescribed to you by a licensed nurse or doctor. They will decide whether or not it is the appropriate treatment for you.
If you are concerned about your blood pressure levels, a medical treatment like Amias may work for you. Talk to your nurse or GP for more information.
You should not take Amias tablets if you:
Amias should never be given to children under 1 year of age. Always consult with your GP before taking Amias, and make sure to tell any doctor or dentist that you are taking it, before having an operation, because it can react badly combined with some anaesthetics.
There are several treatment options for people with high blood pressure. Studies show that people react differently to different medicines at different doses. What works for one person might not be as effective for another person.
However, in clinical trials, the active ingredient in Amias (candesartan cilextil) has been proven to be an effective, long-lasting treatment for high blood pressure:
Importantly, while some users experience extreme changes in their blood pressure levels after ending courses of hypertension treatment, Amias was proven to be long-lasting in its effects. This means that its users didn’t experience serious rebound effects after the end of treatment.
All in all, these results make Amias a popular treatment option amongst users during and after treatment, especially in users who were worried about the long-term effects of their prescription.
Alongside medical treatment, your doctor might also advise you to make some lifestyle changes. This will help enhance the benefit you see from your medication. These can include:
Yes, once you’ve started your treatment with your GP or specialist, and it’s been found to be working well for you, you can reorder Amias online by using an online doctor service like Superdrug Online Doctor:
You can also get Amias in person, at most local pharmacies or chemists, with a prescription from a licensed nurse or doctor.
Only ever take your medicine as directed to by your prescribing nurse or doctor. If you are unsure about how to take Amias, double-check with your GP or pharmacist to make sure.
Amias tablets should be taken every day, at about the same time (e.g. just before you go to bed). Swallow your Amias tablet with a glass of water. You can take Amias with or without food, it will make no difference.
Amias tablets come in four different dosages:
Each Amias tablet can be divided in half into two equal doses.
The usual recommended dose of Amias for the treatment of high blood pressure is one 8mg tablet per day. Your doctor may adjust (increase or decrease) this dose according to how your blood pressure responds to the treatment.
Like any medicine, Amias tablets can come with some side effects. However, everyone’s experience is different – not everybody gets side effects.
The most common side effects of Amias (affecting up to 1 in 10 users) include:
Other, very rare side effects (affecting under 1 in 10,000) are:
Talk to your doctor before drinking alcohol if you’re taking Amias. Alcohol can make you feel dizzy or faint, when combined with the effects of Amias.
If you do ever feel tired or dizzy when taking Amias, do not drive or operate any heavy machinery. Discuss any severe or unexpected side effects with your prescribing nurse or doctor. They may advise you to switch to another form of treatment.
You can also report any unusual side effects (ones that aren’t listed in your patient information leaflet) via the Yellow Card Scheme at www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard. This helps to provide better information about the safety and side effects of Amias.

This is the first time I have used this service. Website was easy to navigate and online questions very clear. prompt response and delivery of malaria tablets.
I cannot believe how easy it was to order, pay and then receive the goods. They kept me informed throughout. I wish all companies were this easy to deal with
I have been prescribed the same medication for over 4 years, yet I still have the hassle of taking valued time off work to visit my GP/local pharmacy for repeat prescriptions. This tedious exercise costs me a half day's annual leave for little more than a blood pressure reading and ironically, I own my own electronic blood pressure meter! DrEd.com - inexpensive, well packaged and prompt delivery.
Placed order one day delivered the next in discrete packaging, treatment worked as directed. Would use again and reccomed
