Excellent 9.1/10

DrEd has been highlighted as a leading provider of healthcare across the UK and Europe by being awarded 2nd Place at the 2013 Johnson & Johnson Digital Health Masterclass.

Johnson and Johnson, one of the largest and most successful pharmaceutical organisations, led the event and were supported by over 10 partners including Health 2.0 and the European Connected Health Alliance.

The event focused on the promotion of innovative digital health organisations like DrEd. Improving access to healthcare for patients means embracing new approaches and solutions: at DrEd we achieve that by giving patients the ability to access prescription treatments and test-kits through a desktop, laptop, tablet or phone.

DrEd is commited to consistently improving our knowledge levels, our customer service levels and the overall patient experience by collaborating with other creative healthcare providers. We believe we can help more patients by partnering with other organisations, rather than trying to innovate alone all the time. DrEd partners with organisations like Superdrug, Polypill and TheHealthCounter to achieve this.

The event gave 20 of Europe's most exciting healthcare providers, including DrEd, the chance to expand their knowledge of the digital health market by discussing and collaborating with other organisations, to gain a better understanding of our role within the sector.

The companies chosen to participate were selected from a pool of over 100 applicants across Europe.

The Johnson & Johnson Innovation Programme

Recognising the growing significance of digital healthcare technology, the Johnson & Johnson Masterclass sought to equip promising organisations with the necessary expertise and contacts to succeed. Zack Cooper, a Professor at the London School of Economics and one of the participating speakers, stated the next fifty years will "not be about be about new drugs, new therapies", but "about the science of healthcare delivery".

The choice of companies taking part in the programme reflected this understanding of future challenges in the healthcare sector. Participants included cloud computing technology start-up BrainControl and mobile health solution provider PX care from the Netherlands, as well as other organisations from Finland, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Iceland, France and Portugal.

In addition to facilitating the exchange of information and experience between organisations from across Europe, the program also provided new businesses with the opportunity to network and meet investors. On the closing "Investor Day", all companies were given the chance to pitch their business model or idea to a panel of judges, consisting of healthcare experts and venture capitalists. In addition to obtaining valuable feedback, there was a cash prize of €50,000 to be shared among the three winners of this "Masterclass Challenge".

The Winners

The DrEd team are proud to have been awarded second place in the Masterclass Challenge. DrEd Co-founder Amit Khutti commented:

"We are very excited and proud to be recognised by the judges of the Masterclass. For us, it reinforces the fact that we are offering a service that resonates with a broad audience in an exciting and emerging market."

The first prize went to Px HealthCare, a data-analytics venture dedicated to providing chronically ill patients with mobile health solutions. Their tools are designed to support the patient while opening up new research opportunities. Having won an award for their OWise breast cancer support product, will enable PX to "expand into other cancer indications" said founder Anne Bruinvels.

Third place went to Onco Drug Personalised Medicine (ODPM), a business specialising in the development of personalised medical solutions in the field of oncology.
