We offer two different STI test kits for women, one which provides a basic screen and one which provides a full STI screen.
The basic STI test kit for women tests for:
gonorrhea (vaginal, anal and oral)
chlamydia (vaginal, anal and oral)
The full STI test for women checks for all STIs included in the basic screen as well as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and a number of other infections which affect the genital and urinary tract.
Basic STI test kit: €173
Full STI test kit: €318
Delivery and return postage are included. Your test kit should arrive within 5 - 8 working days of placing your order.
Once you have placed your order, we will send out your test kit to your preferred address. It will take 5 - 7 working days to arrive after placing your order.
The test kit comes with:
one swab for the vagina
one oral swab
one rectal swab
one finger prick test for a tiny blood sample
You can collect all required samples in the comfort of your home. You will need to provide a tiny blood sample, which will be used to check your blood for evidence of HIV, syphilis and (in the full test kit) hepatitis. The test kit includes a finger prick test, which makes it easy for you to obtain a small blood sample.
The test kit comes with detailed instructions. It is important that you follow the instructions carefully and that you label your samples as outlined in the instructions.
Once you have collected all samples, all you need to do is place them in the envelope provided and post them to the laboratory.
You will receive your test results within 2-3 working days of the laboratory receiving the envelope with your samples. Your test results will become available in your private and secure online patient record with us. When your test results are ready, you will be sent a text or email asking you to check your patient record. Your test results will be available in your record, although sometimes we ask you to give us a call, so that we can explain the results instead.
We never send emails or text messages containing test results or any other kind of personal information.
The majority of STIs can not be detected when testing shortly after you have contracted them. The time during which an STI is present but can’t be detected is called a window period.
For chlamydia and gonorrhea, the window period can be up to four weeks long, which means that you can get a false negative if you get tested earlier. However, if you have symptoms, or know that you have had sexual contact with someone with an STI, we would encourage you to take a test without waiting for the window period to be up, to ensure you can get the treatment that you need promptly.
For HIV, hepatitis and syphilis, the window period can be up to 12 weeks. If you get tested less than 12 weeks after you have potentially been exposed to one of these STIs, you should repeat the test again at a later date to confirm your test result. That said, if you suspect you’ve had sexual contact with one of these infections, it’s better to test before the window period is up so that you can seek treatment promptly.
The basic STI screen for women checks for:
Chlamydia is a bacterial infection, which can be transmitted during anal, oral and vaginal sex. The STI test kit for women checks for anal, oral and vaginal chlamydia. Chlamydia is often symptomless, which means that you could have it without noticing any signs of infection.
Like chlamydia, gonorrhea often doesn’t display symptoms but it can cause complications if left untreated. The basic screen is suitable for detecting gonorrhea in the vagina, rectrum and throat.
HIV is a serious condition, which can be fatal if left untreated. Patients who get diagnosed and treated early can live an almost normal life and have a normal life expectancy. It is important that you get tested if you have had unprotected sex with a partner whose HIV status is unknown.
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease which is currently on the rise. It tends to cause lesions during the first weeks after infection. These lesions are usually painless and they can easily be mistaken for a different condition. However, syphilis can spread to other organs and cause damage to the brain if it is not treated in a timely manner. If you believe you may have been exposed to syphilis, you should get tested.
The full STI screen for women checks for all STIs covered by the basic screen. In addition, it checks for hepatitis B and hepatitis C, as well as a number of other infections which can cause symptoms in women.
