Why should I get tested for chlamydia?

A chlamydia test is the only way of knowing whether you have contracted the infection during intercourse. Chlamydia is not only very common, but also one of the sexually transmitted infections which can go unnoticed for a long time. As many patients do not develop symptoms, the illness can spread and cause complications in the long term. A chlamydia home test allows you to find out whether you require treatment. The biggest issue with chlamydia is that those infected are unaware of the infection and keep passing it on to their sexual partners. Getting tested is an important step everyone can take to stop the current epidemic and constant increase in infection rates, especially among young people.

Chlamydia home test kit for men

The chlamydia test kit for men consists of a plastic sample bottle which you will use to provide a urine sample. The test is very easy to use and comes with detailed instructions. The test kit contains two bottles, a large and a small one. To gather your sample, please take out the smaller bottle and and use it to collect your sample. You should capture the first flow of your urine and fill the small bottle at least halfway. Close the small bottle and place it in the larger one with the absorbent paper. Please make sure you fill in the label provided, with your name, surname, gender and date of birth as well as the time and date you took your sample. Our partner laboratory can only process test kits if the specimen bottle is labelled correctly, so please ensure you attach the label. Finally, just put the large bottle containing the smaller container with your specimen in the pre-addressed envelope and seal it. You should post the sample as soon as possible.

Chlamydia home test kit for women

The chlamydia test kit for women consists of a swab test, as urine tests have been found to be less accurate in women. It is just as easy to use and comes with clear instructions. before you take a swab, you should wash and dry your hands. Then, twist the cap to break the seal of your swab test kit. Please make sure not to touch the tip of the swab and not to lay it down. Hold the swab to that the tip points towards you and and use your other hand to spread the skin outside the vagina. Insert the tip of the swab into the vagina but make sure not to insert it deeper than two inches. Rotate the swab for 10 to 15 seconds and withdraw it without touching your skin. Afterwards, place the swab in the tube and wash your hands. please ensure to label your test kit as instructed before you place it in the self-addressed envelope.

How quickly will I get my result?

You will receive your test kit within 1-2 days of placing your order with DrEd. Your test result will be available within 1-3 days of your sample reaching the laboratory.

Is there an incubation period?

If you have caught chlamydia in the last 1-3 weeks, it is possible that you receive a false negative test result. The infection can take several weeks to develop, so the test may not pick up on a recent infection. Please bear this in mind when taking the test. Chlamydia tests are 90 to 95% accurate. If your result differs to your sexual partner’s test result, there may be chance that you have received a false negative or false positive test result.

What does my chlamydia test result mean?

If you have received a positive test result, you are very likely to have chlamydia. The infection can easily be treated with a single dose of an antibiotic. To order, please visit our page about chlamydia treatment. If you have received a negative test result you do not have chlamydia. However, if you have recently had unprotected sex, there is a chance that you may have an infection which is not yet detectable. If a recent partner of yours has received a positive chlamydia test result you should consider treatment, even if your test has come back negative.
